IMO, these sd work 'like a VCR' as far as recording and playback. There are models w/ harddrives, VHS players, etc. built in, but to me that's overboard.
Photos/Multimedia Gallery Available: http://www.businesswire.com/cgi-bin/mmg.cgi?eid=6828510&lang=enI do have a TV card in my PC so I can do this, but using the DVD recorder is easier. It records to DVD-R like a VCR. I don't use it to record live TV so I don't use VCR+, but it has it. Also, it has TimeSlip which lets you watch something while it's recording (start recording "24" at 8pm and start watching it from the begining at 8:20 to speed thru commercials like a TiVo). Again, I don't use this, but it has it.Editing Your RecordingsCOMEDY CENTRAL, the only all-comedy network, currently is seen in more than 98 million homes nationwide. If you're looking for a good, relatively cheap solution to digitize your tapes, archive TiVo, etc., I recommend the Panasonic DMR-E55K.DVD-RAM and DVD-RW are the rewritable types. They're more expensive and for my purposes aren't worth worrying about.I have a DVD recorder for archiving TiVo shows as opposed to accessing my TiVo from my PC. This is nice because it means I can also archive VHS tapes, camcorder tapes, etc. w/no extra work.Other previously released recordings by COMEDY CENTRAL Records include: Christopher Titus'"Neverlution," Louis C.K.'s "Hilarious," Dane Cook's "I Did My Best - Greatest Hits," Bo Burnham's "Words, Words, Words," Doug Benson's "Hypocritical Oaf," Kevin Hart's "Seriously Funny,""The Sarah Silverman Program Soundtrack Album," George Lopez'"Tall Dark and Chicano," Greg Giraldo's "Midlife Vices," Nick Swardson's "Seriously, Who Farted?," Dane Cook's "ISolated INcident," Cook's platinum-selling "Harmful If Swallowed" and double-platinum "Retaliation," and Mitch Hedberg's "Do You Believe in Gosh?" among others.SummaryIn addition to "Potty Mouth," Benson has two prior CD's released on COMEDY CENTRAL Records, "Unbalanced Load" and "Hypocritical Oaf." Benson has his own documentary "Super High Me," based on a joke from his standup act available on DVD. On NBC's "Last Comic Standing," Benson finished top six in the 2007 season. He was a series regular on four seasons of VH-1's "Best Week Ever," has made recurring appearances on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" and guest appearances on the "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "Friends." In addition to "The Benson Interruption," Benson was a character on COMEDY CENTRAL's "The Sarah Silverman Program" and his second "COMEDY CENTRAL Presents" half-hour special premiered in January '09. He is also a creator/writer/star of "The Marijuana-Logues," a show that's been a hit in clubs and theatres from Los Angeles to New York - and drew a bongload of rave reviews. There is also a CD, "The Marijuana-Logues" and a book, The Marijuana-Logues: Everything About Pot That We Could Remember. In 2006, High Times Magazine named him Stoner of the Year, and in 2009, he successfully made it to all the shows in his thirteen-day Medical Marijuana Tour. He continues to express his love of movies on his "Doug Loves Movies" podcasts (available on iTunes).I was looking for this type of solution in getting ready for having a baby and I knew I wasn't going to be sifting through and editing hours of video. An interesting trick: If you have a digital camera w/ RCA cable output, you can hook it directly into the dvd recorder and create a quick slide-show dvd. Many cameras even have a slide show function built in! You can use the sound from a music channel, CD, etc.Remember - this is new technology and will only get better and cheaper. If you buy the top of the line today, it's going to be out of date and/or cheap tomorrow. Test the waters w/ a 'good' model and upgrade when the time is right. We live in an age where it’s tough even to walk down the street without someone trying to sell you something. It’s at the point where practically the entire American experience is brought to us by some corporation. Utilizing cutting-edge tools of comic exploration and total self exploitation, Spurlock dissects the world of advertising and marketing by using his personal integrity as currency to sell out to the highest bidder. Scathingly funny, subversive, and deceptively smart, POM Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold shines the definitive light on our branded future.Runtime: Approximately 88 minutes.Bells and WhistlesIf you're really interested in editing, look in to PC options. Pinnacle, ArcSoft, Adobe, etc. - they have good solutions for that.Chances are - you won't. It's a pain for the most part and usually requires DVD-RAM or DVD-RW discs to do it and they're more expensive. If you have a lot of free time for this, you're a rare person.I got the Panasonic DMR-E55K:Also, it plays CDs and mp3 CDs w/ a good interface so not only does it replace a CD player, but since you can put so many songs on one CD, it replaces a CD changer.DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD-RAM, DVD-RWFilmmaker Morgan Spurlock rings the closing bell at NASDAQ with Amanda Mochan of Guinness World Records in celebration of his film POM Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold being honored with the record for "most paid-for product placements in a film." It will be available on Blu-ray and DVD August 23rd. (Photo: Business Wire)Realize Something About Technology
